Guardian の記事に「Palm は生き残りの道を見つけられるのか?」と言う記事が載っている。Jeff Hawkins があれだけ「次のメインストリームになる」と吠えた Foleo があっさりと開発中止になったことで、同社の先行きにかなりの懸念が抱かれているようだ。though earlier Colligan said that would appear in 2008, Palm this week told the Guardian "it will be 12 to 18 months" before a Linux Palm appearsCan Palm find a way to survive? | Technology | The Guardian次のコアになるべく開発されている Linux base Palm の販売は 12-18ヶ月先らしい。あれ、そんなに先だったのか…。
スマートフォン市場では現状で既に Rim (Brackberry) と Nokia に大きく水を開けられている。Linux base smartphone という分野でもモトローラが着々とシェアを伸ばしている。現状は Windows Mobile 登載の Treo が同社スマートフォンの半分を越える売上になっているらしく、当面は(恐らくは将来的にも)そこに頼らざるを得ない状況が続くんだろう。PalmOS ファンであり現ユーザとしては寂しい限りだが。
